OFAC
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is a US Treasury office that administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals. In practice, OFAC maintains lists of sanctioned individuals, entities, and jurisdictions; US persons and many US-regulated businesses must block or restrict dealings with those listed.
In context
On Polymarket, OFAC-listed jurisdictions and sanctioned parties are treated as fully blocked. That means users located in OFAC-sanctioned countries (for example, Iran or North Korea) are prevented from placing new orders. Polymarket’s geo-restrictions also explicitly include all OFAC-sanctioned countries in the “fully blocked” category; this is enforced at the platform level and users must not attempt to evade it (VPN bypass is disallowed under Polymarket’s Terms of Service).
