Gas Station Network

A Gas Station Network is a relayer model that sponsors gas on behalf of users. In practice a relayer pays the blockchain transaction fees (gas) and forwards signed user actions to the on-chain contracts, so end users can interact with an application without holding the native chain token.

In context

On Polymarket, the Gas Station Network powers gasless trading. All user transactions — wallet deployment, ERC-20 approvals, CTF split/merge/redeem, transfers, and order placement — go through the Polymarket Relayer. That relayer pays Polygon gas so users only need pUSD to trade. From the user perspective this removes the need to hold Polygon's native token and simplifies onboarding; from an integration perspective it requires a trusted relayer and careful handling of signed requests.

Because the relayer model abstracts gas, other constraints remain: settlement uses pUSD, trades execute on the CLOB via the Exchange contract, and resolution is handled by UMA. The relayer also enables features like automatic proxy wallet deployment and sponsored approvals, which are central to Polymarket's user experience.
