Relayer

The Gas Station Network that sponsors Polymarket transactions so users never pay gas.

Polymarket Relayer

The Polymarket Relayer is the Gas Station Network (GSN) service that sponsors on‑chain costs for users on Polymarket. By routing user transactions through the Relayer, Polymarket covers gas for common workflows so you never need to hold native chain tokens. The Relayer handles wallet deployment, ERC‑20 approvals, CTF split/merge/redeem operations, transfers of outcome tokens, and order placement on the CLOB.

In context

When you connect a wallet to Polymarket and submit your first trade, the Relayer may deploy a Proxy wallet for you (unless you already use a pre‑deployed Gnosis Safe). It also relays approval transactions so you can interact with pUSD and outcome tokens without paying gas. Trading actions — limit orders, FAK market orders, and CTF operations required to buy or settle positions — are all submitted through the Relayer. The result is a gasless user experience on Polygon: you need only pUSD to trade, while Polymarket sponsors the transaction fees.

Important operational notes

  • The Relayer is a centralised service operated by Polymarket that uses the Gas Station Network model to sponsor transactions on Polygon (chain ID 137).
  • Reads from the Gamma, Data, and CLOB APIs remain public and unchanged; the Relayer specifically affects transaction sponsorship and user UX.
  • Builder program participants route orders through their own attributed relayer paths (with builder headers) to earn builder fees; relayer limits vary by Builder tier.

Risks and caveats

Do not treat sponsored gas as eliminating all risks. The Relayer removes the need to hold native gas tokens, but other risks remain: resolution and UMA dispute delays, slippage and partial fills on the CLOB, variable taker fees, smart‑contract risks, and geo restrictions enforced by Polymarket. The Relayer does not change how settlement works — after resolution you still redeem winning outcome tokens for $1.00 each in pUSD.
