Resolution
Definition
On Polymarket, resolution (often called market resolution) is the oracle's formal report of which outcome won. Once the oracle reports a winning outcome, the Conditional Token Framework (CTF) outcome tokens tied to that result become redeemable for pUSD.
In context
Polymarket uses the UMA optimistic oracle for resolution. Markets remain tradable until the event's endDate and until the oracle's report is final. When UMA publishes a resolved outcome, winning outcome tokens can be burned and redeemed for $1.00 each via the CTF redeem operation; losing tokens become worthless. Disputes at the UMA layer can pause or delay settlement, so a reported outcome may not be immediately final.
Practical notes
- Timing: Resolution is an asynchronous on-chain process. After UMA reports, there can be additional time before tokens are redeemable depending on dispute windows and settlement mechanics.
- Redeem flow: Use the CTF redeem function to exchange winning outcome tokens for pUSD at $1.00 per token. Polymarket's Relayer sponsors gas for redeem transactions.
- Risks: Do not treat a reported market as instant final. Resolution carries risks including UMA dispute delays, settlement timing, slippage on exit, and smart-contract risk.
