Conditional Token Framework (CTF)
The Conditional Token Framework (CTF) is Gnosis's ERC-1155 standard used by Polymarket to represent outcome tokens. Each market outcome on Polymarket is an ERC-1155 CTF token that pays $1.00 if that outcome resolves YES and $0.00 if it resolves NO. Trading, settlement, and the minting/burning of outcome tokens are all performed using CTF operations.
In context
On Polymarket you interact with CTF tokens when you create or settle positions. A "split" operation converts $1.00 of pUSD into a complete set of outcome tokens for a condition. A "merge" operation recombines outcome tokens back into pUSD (or into another set depending on the condition), and after resolution the winning outcome tokens are "redeem"ed for $1.00 each. These CTF operations underlie how Polymarket implements multi-outcome markets, binary YES/NO markets, and final settlement via UMA.
