KYC
Know Your Customer identity verification.
KYC (Know Your Customer) is the process of verifying a user's identity before granting access to certain regulated financial services. On Polymarket, KYC appears as a mandatory identity-verification step for the CFTC-regulated US pathway; users who want to trade through that route must complete whatever identity checks the regulated service requires.
In context
You will encounter KYC on Polymarket only when using the CFTC-regulated US pathway. Polymarket runs its main exchange on Polygon with gas-sponsored trading and pUSD settlement for most users, but the CFTC-regulated pathway for US customers requires additional compliance. That pathway enforces KYC to meet regulatory requirements; non-US users trading on the standard Polymarket platform do not go through that CFTC KYC flow. KYC is separate from on-chain wallet operations: wallets (MetaMask, Gnosis Safe, Proxy wallets) and Polymarket's Relayer mechanics remain the same, but access to the regulated venue is gated by identity verification.
